The Lit Esquire PLLC is Born
On November 1, 2021, I quit my first job out of law school and decided to take control of my legal career rather than letting the job market do it for me.
In law school, I fell in love with the idea that I could use my legal expertise to help a group of people that I have always identified with: artists. Unfortunately, after law school, finding a job that served that mission (or any job at all) proved difficult and I wound up working in commercial real estate. After numerous final interviews for “dream jobs” only to be rejected again and again, I decided that I could not spend one more day working in a job that did not align with my career goals.
So – I quit. And decided that instead of looking to other people to give me my “dream job” – I was going to create it for myself and thus, The Lit Esquire PLLC was born.
The Lit Esquire PLLC is an entertainment and intellectual property law firm dedicated to providing legal services tailored to the working artist and creative professional.
I was originally going to launch last year, but the universe had other plans for me. Shortly after I quit my job and started writing my business plan for The Lit Esquire PLLC, the Dramatists Guild reached out to me to interview for their Director of Business Affairs, a position I had interviewed for nearly a year prior. While I was unsure of jumping into another job, especially after the effect my previous position had on my mental health, I decided to go forward with the interview. A few months later, I received the offer from the Dramatists Guild – mere weeks before I was planning to launch.
So I took the job as an opportunity to expand on my skillset and immerse myself fully back in the arts world and put my launch plans on hold until I felt I was ready to balance both. Now, after a busy year of settling into my new role with the Dramatists Guild (and quietly working with a few incredible clients), I am ready to share The Lit Esquire PLLC with the rest of the world!
